Ward of State – Collusion

Premiere of composer in residence Susan Hawkin’s new Cycle.

Ward of State is a dance film set in the 1930’s – 1940 about a young girl who was taken from her parents and put into care as a “ward of the state”. Following the life of the girl as she moves in and out of convents and foster care over the course of a few years. Collusion records soundtrack of this film in late 2013. On this occasion the showing of the film will be accompanied by live musical performance.

Benjamin Greaves commissions Queensland composer in residence Susan Hawkins to complete a new Cycle for instruments/soprano. It explores the appeal of Klezmer improvisation and rhapsody.
