In its opening concert for 2017, the Queensland Youth Symphony proudly features one of its leading violinists, Leanne McGowan, as the soloist in Bruch’s evocative Scottish Fantasy. The concert begins with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture, drawing on vivid memories of Easter ceremonies and celebrations during the composer’s childhood. Composed in 1943, Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra is one of the great masterpieces of the 20th century and a magnificent showpiece for orchestra.
