Get set for a night of intense energy, beautiful harmonies and driving dance rhythms next month, when well known Celtic band Barleyshakes launches the ‘Live Music Locally’ program at the Mapleton Hall.

Brewed in Ireland and distilled in Australia, the Barleyshakes are adored throughout Australia and beyond for their ‘bent’ Irish sound, earning them the Queensland Music Award for World Music.

Ever since their inception in the 90’s in Dublin, the Barleyshakes have been turning heads as they inject new life into Irish music, while honouring traditions past. Their live shows have taken them around the globe and they continue to take audiences on a joy filled ride wherever they perform.

Fiddles, flutes, tin whistle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, vocals, bass, bodhran, and drums create their truly wonderful Celtic sound, and they have shared the stage with Lunasa, Metallica, Kila, Joe Cocker, Sharon Shannon, Altan, and Grada, to name a few.

Barleyshakes’ performance will be the inaugural event in this year’s music program at the Mapleton Hall. ‘Live Music Locally’ is an initiative of the MH Folk, a group of volunteers who are working under the auspices of the Mapleton Hall Trust. The group is developing an ongoing program of live music performances at the iconic hall, aimed at both bringing entertainment to locals, and supporting live artists. The hall has wonderful acoustics and is a great venue for live bands. Funds raised go toward its upkeep.
