The focus is on Australia’s Orava Quartet in this sublime chamber music concert, performed at The Empire Church Theatre with its superb acoustics.
Based in Brisbane, the Orava Quartet is Camerata’s Ensemble-in-Residence and has made an impressive and rapid rise to national attention since their return to Australia from the USA in 2014. The quartet is regularly invited to all of the nation’s major classical music festivals. Finesse features the quartet in a stunning collection of powerful works including Haydn’s homage to Mozart in his Quinten quartet (a nickname alluding to the fifths in the opening theme), followed by Janácek’s Kreutzer Sonata (inspired by Tolstoy’s novel). After interval, members of Camerata will join with Orava to present Mendelssohn’s glorious Octet, an inspired work written by the then 16-year-old composer.
