Sunshine Coast QLD
I would like to welcome the competitors and their supporters to our 50th Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod.
In 1967 a small committee, led by Mr John James, recommenced the Nambour Eisteddfod after a lapse of 18 years. 542 students entered the following sections – Piano, Vocal, Brass Instrumental, Art of Speech, Improvisation, Mime and Drama. Max Olding was the music adjudicator and Beverley Langford the speech adjudicator. The following year, dance was added and was included for two years before holding their own event.
In the early nineties, the eisteddfod had grown so large there was a need to divide into different sections. Brass and Woodwind was included in 1991 and the others followed in the next few years.
Today more than 6000 students cross the stage to perform in a supportive and encouraging environment.
