Two Evenings Celebrating Two Decades of Musical Adventures

14 albums, hundreds of original works, countless national/international tours and far-reaching acclaim – Topology has had quite the adventure since their DIY beginnings in the Brisbane underground scene in 1997. Their distinct combination of piano, strings and saxophone, with influences from chamber music, pop, jazz, electronica, orchestral and progressive rock, has enchanted audiences for 20 years, and they show no sign of slowing down.

In TOPOLOGY@TWENTY they reflect on their creative journey thus far – from cross-genre experimentation to innovation in speech melody, composing for dance, puppetry and theatre to developing their own theatrical performance modes. Topology celebrates this milestone over two evenings with two very different programs, each night presenting highlights from each decade of original repertoire and a few surprise appearances by some their favourite collaborators.

PROGRAM FOR 2 DEC: 1997-2007

Topology gets back to what brought them together, featuring composers whose work was instrumental in shaping the Topology sound: Michael Nyman, Arvo Pärt, John Adams, Tim Brady and John Rodgers. They will also revisit the very first compositions Robert Davidson, John Babbage and Bernard Hoey ever created for the quintet.
