Three simultaneous workshops will be held over two exciting hours. Choose from:
World Music songs
Class limit 15
Born in France and of Spanish-Sephardic heritage, Pauline Maudy will facilitate an uplifting vocal workshop for beginners and experienced singers. Pauline will teach songs from around the world with harmonies. Singers of all levels of experience are welcome.

Sephardic & Balkan tunes
Class limit 15
Join MZAZA’s talented instrumentalists for a workshop on Jewish Sephardic and Balkan tunes! Bring your weapon of choice, get ready to embrace crazy time signatures, and delve into energising songs from Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Spain and Macedonia. Bring an MP3 recorder (or your phone) and to record the tunes and follow along by ear or use the sheet music MZAZA will provide. Musicians of all levels of experience are welcome.

Percussion: Balkan Rhythms
Class limit 15
In a highly interactive session, Jordan Stamos will teach a number of different Balkan rhythms involving participants playing their own percussion such as darabuka, cajon (box drum), bendir (frame drum), sajat (finger cymbals) and riq (tambourine). Learn the rhythms of Bulgarian dancers and Macedonian maestros as you accompany MZAZA’s multi-instrumentalists. Percussionists of all levels of experience are welcome.

In the last half of the workshop instrumentalists, percussionists and singers will come together to play through what was learnt with the band. In the workshop, MZAZA’s musicians, who are from diverse cultures including France, Bosnia, Latvia, Greece and Australia also share stories of their ancestry.

Participants will also be invite to share their new skills on stage at the end of MZAZA’s evening performance.
