Topology & Friends – FREE in-school workshops

Topology Music and Redland Performing Arts Centre
Description:

ARIA-nominated music adventurists Topology will once again work with young composers to present new music emerging from the Redlands district

As part of their award-winning Top Up program, Topology invites all school ensembles, music groups and individual artists from the wider Redland district to compose and arrange new works throughout Term 1-3.

As part of this development work Topology will conduct in-class composition workshops to help students create and fine tune these pieces.

All artists will then be featured in a live performance, sharing the Concert Hall stage with Topology at RPAC in October.

Previous Topology & Friends participants include:

  • Cleveland District State High School
  • Bayside Youth Orchestra
  • Faith Lutheran College
  • Ormiston College
  • Solo artists: Georgie Taylor, Francesca Brzoskowsk and Lucy Dron

This workshop series and performance opportunity is open to artists and ensembles of any age and music genre. Interested participants and schools can contact christa@topologymusic.com for more information and to register.

BRISBANE Celtic Tunes Workshop + Concert – Presented by Cello Dreaming

Do you want to play Celtic music with Irish abandon and contagious foot-stomping energy? Do you fancy learning not only how to play quick Jigs but also slow beautiful ballads? Sign up for your chance to play in a multi-level Irish folk band. String players, flute, recorder and penny whistle players, acoustic guitarists, bodhran players, Uilleann pipes and button accordion players – youth and adult musicians ALL WELCOME! Jump in and participate at your own level, as multi-level parts are emailed out upon booking.

Rhythmic grooves, open string drones, chords, harmony and melody parts will be taught in the workshop. BONUS opportunity to perform what we learn in the informal community concert after the workshop.

Join Teaching Artist and professional musician Louise King to explore the world of Celtic Tunes in a fun, fiddling frenzy. Musicians will develop folk idiomatic performance skills, learn tunes and options for accompaniment parts plus explore ways to make music that communicates the toe-tapping joy of Celtic folk tradition.

Presented by Teaching Artist and professional musician Louise King, this community music workshop will give participants the opportunity to create, improvise and play music together and spend time connecting with other community musicians.

“Celtic Music is very accessible for budding and aspiring musicians. Anyone can jump in and give it a go! Due to folk music’s community practice of learning by ear and from each other, it brings people together of all abilities and instruments which makes for an exciting musical mix and one BIG community band.”

Cello Dreaming believes in community building opportunities and the benefits that come from combining multiple age ranges and abilities in musical activities.
