MELLOW CELLODRAMA @ The Basement, Gold Coast Arts Centre
May 4 @ 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm

FEISTA DE LA MUSICA
Enjoy another free Fiesta de la Musica lunchtime concert on Thursday May 4 in The Basement at The Arts Centre Gold Coast.

Recently returned from their first European Tour, Cellissimo! – with cellists Belinda Manwaring & Tim Blomfield – is Australia’s pre-eminent cello duo.

Long recognised as the instrument of choice for composers wanting to match the dramatic qualities of the human voice, the cello shines in the spotlight in this performance with works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Kummer & Offenbach.

Antonio Vivaldi, famous for his “Four Seasons” concertos, always knew that the cello could ‘sing’. To prove it, he wrote nine heartfelt, dramatic sonatas for the instrument where the cello’s soul plunges to emotional depths as well as soars upwards into the coloratura range of an Opera diva.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, well known for his operas, The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro, likewise fashioned some fantastic arrangements of his greatest operatic arias. And cellist-composers, Friedrich Kummer and Jacques Offenbach (famous for the “Can-Can”) also knew just how to make the cello tug at audiences’ heart-strings through songs without words.

This concert promises to be a real “Cello-bration”!
