Aidan Connolly is a young fiddle player from Dublin with very definite Sliabh Luachra roots identifiable in his music. He started playing the fiddle at the age of eight, introduced to it by his mother, Eileen, a tin whistle player from Co. Kerry. Initially inspired by the music of Denis Murphy, Julia Clifford, Padraig O’Keefe and indeed that of his uncle, Con Moynihan, Aidan attended classes at the Craobh Naithí branch of Comhaltas in Dublin. There he was influenced by several teachers, Tom MacUileagóid chief among them.
Aidan has a keen interest in the organic traditional music of Ireland and has listened extensively to thousands of recordings from the 1920s onwards. This listening has resulted in a unique style of playing cultivated by a myriad of influences from the master fiddle players of the past and present.
In 2016 he released his debut album, Be Off, to critical acclaim. He has performed all over Ireland, Europe, the USA and Australia and he is highly rated amongst musicians and listeners alike.
Aidan will be supported by Brisbane-based musician, Christian Rizzalli on Bouzouki.
