Hailing from the USA, Bill Broughton has composed film and television music for such shows as Quincy, M.E., Hawaii 5-0, and The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo.  The BPO will give the exciting world premiere of Broughton’s new symphony Ventio Domus (A coming home), conducted by the maestro for whom it was intended, Mr Russell Gray.  Part of the joy in coming home is in going away in the first place, like the trip to Wiesbaden that inspired Brahms’ Third Symphony – a glorious celebration of the countryside and escaping the bustle of Vienna for the ‘secret magic of the forest’.  In annual tradition the BPO will feature the winner of its concerto competition which in 2018 will be open to brass instrumentalists.

Conductor:  Russell Gray

Soloist:  Christopher Thomson (winner of 2018 Concerto Competition)

PROGRAM:
Bill Broughton                                 Symphony ‘Ventio Domus’ (world premiere)
Gordon Jacob                                 Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra
Johannes Brahms                         Symphony No.3, Op.90
