QYS Alumnus Dene Olding was the violin soloist in the first QYS international tour in 1972. He has a distinguished career as a soloist in Australia, New Zealand and the USA, performing over forty concertos and he is soloist in Barber’s Violin Concerto, a masterpiece of modern romanticism.
Gordon Hamilton is one of Australia’s most exciting young composers and QYS is pleased to present the world premiere of his new composition Symphony With Just One Theme.
Shostakovich commented that in his Symphony No. 6, he wanted to convey the moods of spring, joy and youth. It was successfully premiered in 1939 by the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Yevgeny Mravinsky with the Finale repeated as an encore.
