In this Mother’s Day concert, BPO is thrilled to again work with maestro Nicholas Cleobury, Head of Opera at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, in a program of lush orchestral melodies.
The concert opens with a new work by Brisbane composer, Catherine Likhuta, entitled Rituals of Heartland – inspired by a fairy tale created by her and her daughter. Richard Strauss’ autumnal Four Last Songs is a celebration of the beauty of the female voice accompanied by some of his most gorgeous orchestral writing. Franck’s Symphony in D minor was one of his final works and is threaded together by a recurring melody that is transformed from melancholy through tenderness to joy over the course of the work.
Why not take your mother to lunch before the concert at Bowen Hills’ exciting new King Street precinct just a short walk away!
