IVORY & STEEL – Allegro Trio & Nick Parnell Double Bill

We have an exciting double bill of Allegro Trio performing The Great Masters, Beethoven and Haydn, followed by Nick Parnell’s Vibes Virtuoso all in one night.

The Allegro Trio, comprising of Shaohua Chen-Merrett, Vicky Hong and Hugh Won, have been delighting audiences with their dynamic, passionate, entertaining and high quality programs and performance since they formed in 2011.

They will present a wonderful evening of piano trio chamber music with works by the great masters, Haydn and Beethoven.

A work by Beethoven’s teacher Joseph Haydn will start their concert. Haydn’s Piano Trio No.29 is an intricately crafted example of the evolving piano and strings chamber music in the late classical period.

The program then showcases Beethoven’s magnificent Piano Trio No.7, the Archduke, displaying the pinnacle of piano trio as an art form, with the perfect mix of solos and instrumental interplays.

After the interval you will be treated to Nick Parnell and his Vibes Virtuoso, as music’s greatest ‘hits’ are re-imagined by the world’s foremost vibraphone player and his mallets of steel.

Celebrated as one of the most exciting vibes players in the world today, Nick Parnell makes old music new again, injecting energy into a repertoire that might be familiar to some, but definitely inspirational to all.

With a spirit of recklessness, Parnell takes one of the newest of classical instruments (that looks like a xylophone and sounds more like a piano) and gives it a genre-bending makeover.

Accompanied by Julie Sargeant on piano, favourites from classic repertoire, including Gershwin’s Summertime, Albeniz’s Tango and Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, re-interpreted for a vibrant listening experience – from the technically challenging to sheer lyrical beauty in the space of a heartbeat.
