Eccentrically and purposefully out-of-step with recent musical fashion, Norskiosk create little yet epic compositions that hark back to 70’s lo-fi goodness.

Using only two voices, ukelele and double bass and sometimes a banjo or acoustic guitar (and maybe a top hat), the compositions are dynamic, harmonically rich and melodically complex.

Bridging the less explored avenues between baroque pop, old timey music and post-Beatles influence, these dapper boys bring old world charm together with indie musical sensibilities. They create stroganoff like no other.

Markus Karlsen (double bass, vocals): Markus plays a very large wooden instrument, that you have to stand up to play. It has four big strings and looks a bit ridiculous. Some people are not tall enough for this instrument, luckily he is.

Mirko Ruckels (vocals, guitar, banjo, ukelele): Mirko is looking at grafting extra arms to his torso, so he can play all of the stated instruments at the same time. Until that operation is complete, he has to make do with playing one instrument at a time.

Penny Boys (Vocals, Guitar)
Cathy Bell (Fiddle, Accordion, Harmony Vocals)

Dan Grant (Vocals, Guitar)

Tin Star are steeped in the folk traditions of sixties America – back to the coffee house scene of Greenwich Village and Laurel Canyon. Their music calls to mind storytelling songwriters like Paul Simon, Neil Young and Bob Dylan. They have a talent for distilling folk, country and rock into their own signature brand of earthy roots music bolstered by sweet harmonies and acoustic guitar, fiddle and accordion. 2017 saw them establish themselves firmly in the Australian folk scene with some prime festival appearances. With a new album currently in production, Tin Star are looking forward to an even bigger 2018.
