Mussorgsky arr. Lovelock/Linckelmann Pictures at an Exhibition

Pictures at an Exhibition, the most famous musical rendering of visual art, is a riot of amazing colour. Fratres is ethereal, recalling cathedral resonance of early music fashioned for multiple vocal strands. Stravinsky’s neoclassical Octet, scored for a fusion of wind and strings combines the essence of the classical period with twentieth century modernism. Shivery, stark and profound, the Shostakovich lingers in the mind.
