Settle in for an afternoon of spectacle, with music from a near-forgotten baroque master and rebel composer Poulenc’s most well-known piece.
Gawk at the sheer technical demands in Zelenka’s larger-than-life Trio Sonata No.3. The richly textured work gives way to its own massive universe, through contrasting timbres of the instruments – beautiful, yet restrained.
Poulenc’s wittily-written Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano is a punchy caricature of contrasting sections. Starting like a splash of cold water to the face, the work moves to ‘very sweet and melancholic’, before closing with rapturous fanfare.
