Relive your favourite movie moments with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Movie Masterpieces concert.

It’s hard to imagine great movies without their equally great soundtracks. Modern composers have set the tone for countless films, including John Williams for the Star Wars and Harry Potter series, or Ennio Morricone for The Mission, from which the QSO will perform the famous melody Gabriel’s Oboe.

Besides commissioning original scores, many movie directors select popular classical works for their films. Favourites include Handel’s The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, for glorious processions and celebrations, and Mendelssohn’s Wedding March, as featured in more than 40 romantic scenes in movies including The Wedding Planner, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Similarly, The Blue Danube by Strauss featured in more than 30 movies, including the famous docking of two space ships in 2001 – A Space Odyssey and during the sinking of the Titanic.

The Orchestra will also perform excerpts from Corigliano’s score to The Red Violin, a soundtrack that recently resonated around the music world featuring virtuoso violinist Joshua Bell.
